George Vincent Prescott

August 15, 1928 – March 17, 2018

A memorial service will be held for George Vincent Prescott, 89, of Myrtle Point, Oregon, at the Oaks Pavilion at the Coos County Fairgrounds, in Myrtle Point, Oregon on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2 p.m. Cremation rites have been held under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary.

George passed away surrounded by family at Bay Area Hospital on Saturday, March 17, 2018, due to complications of the flu and pneumonia. George was born on August 15, 1928 in Winchester Bay, Ore., to Flossie and Neiland “Pat” Prescott. George met his sweetheart, Billie Valene Moen, at Reedsport High School in 1944. The two were married in Florence on June 12, 1948, and began a family shortly thereafter. George was the Log Rolling Champion at the Coos County Fair for several years. He spent the majority of his career in the timber industry. He was a tugboat pilot on the Coos River for decades, working for Al Pierce Lumber Company and ultimately retiring from Knutson Towboat Company in 1990. George was hard working, knowledgeable, friendly, and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed traveling and spending time outdoors; camping and fishing were favorite past times, and he hunted across Oregon well into his 80s. He enjoyed carpentry, could fix or build just about anything, and was a great cook. Most of all, George loved being with his family, and his profound love for and dedication to them, including the undying love he felt for his wife of 69 years, will be very sorely missed. George is survived by his brother, Raymond Prescott; his sons, Steve Prescott, Geoff Prescott, and George and Marlene Prescott; his daughters, Sue and Bill Mack, Becky and Jesse Galusha, Lisa Prescott, and Shelley and Kevin Freeman. George is also survived by 26 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson, residing all across the United States. George is predeceased by his wife, Billie V. Prescott, his parents, Flossie and Neiland, his siblings, Perry Prescott, Patsy Clardy, and Shirley Sanders, and a grandson, Cody Brandon Prescott.

Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, 405 Elrod Ave., Coos Bay, Oregon 541/267-4216
