Michael “Mike” Earl Hammer

Michael Earl “Mike” Hammer, 66, passed away in Coos Bay, Oregon on Friday, June 19, 2026. He was born on December 11, 1959, in San Diego, California, to John Earl Hammer and Mary Ellen Diven. He grew up in San Diego, California where he attended Marston Junior High and graduated from Clairemont High School in 1978. Mike moved from San Diego, California to Coos Bay, Oregon in the late 1980’s and remained in Coos Bay until his passing.

He was a professional painter for many years; he painted commercially and residentially. His outstanding and detailed work can be found all over Oregon. He also worked for EL Edwards, Yellow Cab, and Bandon Dunes throughout his life. Mike’s quick wit and humor were outstanding, he could surprise everyone, and you never saw it coming. He enjoyed spending his time watching NASCAR and camping at Laverne Park with the Eagles Lodge yearly. One of Mike’s favorite recognitions was making his famous chili; He worked each year to improve his recipe until he won first place for it. Mike had great long-time friends, from both San Diego and Colorado. They kept in touch and retold stories, they said, “Those were the days.”

Mike married the love of his life, Denise, in Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 7th, 2025, at the “Little Church of the West”, Wedding Chapel, surrounded by friends who were able to attend.

Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Denise of Coos Bay; our children, Robyn, Mindy, Brandi, Joshua, Justin, and Michael; his sister, Melissa; his niece, Montana; grandchildren, Halie, Wyatt, Wesley, Shyann, David Jr., Anthony, Holden, Justin, Hannah, Wyatt, Jozef, Hannah, Emilliana, Jonathan Thomas, Nakoa, and Rachael; and great-grandchildren, Penelope, Wesley Jr., Lyla, Opal, Rain, Dylan, and Olivia, due January 2027.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Earl Hammer and Mary Ellen Diven, and his grandchild, Christina.
