Piers Baker

Piers Theodore Baker was born on January 25, 1952, in Portland, OR to William Jennings Baker and Carolyn Ruth Brown Baker.

He was an extremely caring and thoughtful man. As an environmentalist, he fought to protect the watershed where he originally settled in Goldendale, WA, and in Oregon was active in beach cleanup. He deeply cared about animals and what was happening to their habitat due to man’s interference. Piers loved music and was a lead singer and lead guitarist in local Portland bands. He played his guitar up to the last days of his life. He always wanted peace and a better future for humanity. Piers fiercely protected his family and friends and always did whatever he could to help anyone in need. He was a powerful, sweet and gentle soul.

Piers worked in the forest planting trees and in the lumber industry including manufacturing roof trusses. He worked for Neptune Pools in Portland performing pool maintenance and safely retrieving ducklings that floated into pool skimmers.

Piers married Laura Alys Parker in 1979, and settled in Goldendale, WA. To this union were born his two children, Anthony Piers Baker and Melissa Lynn Baker. In 1993 he married Corinna Marie Domme, in 2001 he married Lori Susan Nielson, and in 2023 married Janet Carrell Stoffel.

With his love for nature and the beautiful Oregon Coast forests, he retired in 2018 in Reedsport, OR and owned a beautiful home on the Smith River. While dating, he and his wife to be, enjoyed hiking, fishing and canoeing along the southern Oregon coast. When he married Janet in July, of 2023, he moved to Coos Bay, OR. They walked daily and became friends with fellow walkers and dogs at the Millicoma Marsh trails. He loved to grow plants and built a terraced vegetable garden in their back yard where he grew many vegetables including artichokes, delicious tomatoes and Walla Walla sweet onions.

For more than seven weeks of the summer of 2025 Piers and Jan camped, with his little Yorkie dog, Tessa, in the remote coastal and Umpqua forests in their solar panel equipped and restored classic Dolphin motor home. While there they had many adventures, in his truck, to pristine lakes for swimming, fishing and basking in nature. It was their dream come true.

In early December, 2025, Piers was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. His wife lovingly cared for him during his more than 6-month battle with cancer, as Piers courageously fought to live, while utilizing hospice care. With his son and first wife in Coos Bay, helping with his care, he peacefully passed away on the morning of June 25, 2026 with Jan at his bedside.

Surviving Piers are his wife, Janet Stoffel, son Anthony Baker, daughter Melissa Baker, sister Catherine, his good friend, Curt Clay, his first wife, Laura and her husband, Chuckie Dewberry, and Grandchildren: Adrian Baker, Kevin Baker, Donovon Baker, Kyra Herring, and Zaela Baker. Piers was preceded in death by his parents, Lori Nielsen Baker, and his dog Tessa.

A celebration of life will be held later this month at his favorite beach.
